Iv’e been keeping myself busy the last few weeks, reusing-recycling- repurposing stuff that was laying around the garden or lying by the side of the road near my house. (100 meters. approximately).
I collect wood pallets on a regular basis, since I figure it can always be used as firewood at winter time , that is if I can’t put them to better use. because there is a lot of construction going on where I live, these pallets are thrown away on a weekly basis.
One of my latest productivity outbursts, resulted in a yellow wooden posterframe , I made totally by myself- though my partner helped me hang it up- this thing is quite heavy and needed heavy duty drilling in cement walls. not exactly my expertise-yet .
The posters are Banksy, in case you wondered-or were impressed.
Speaking of the pallets.
The second project is an experiment.
I am experimenting in growing cacti. in soup bowls. actual soup bowls. no hole for drainage that is.
From what I’ve read online, the thing you need to pay most attention to is to avoid overwatering these! (!)apparently, they are accustomed to hot weather, and overwatering them results in root rotting -thus death of the cactus.
I am trying watering them once a week, and hoping this will do the trick.
I found an old metal frame somewhere behind the shed in the garden, and a forgotten piece of wood pallet . strangely- the pallet fit exactly into the frame (!) I was shocked too you can believe it.
Took a few pounding with a hammer to let it set tightly in the frame, then I discovered the front 2 legs were significantly shorter than the back ones.
For the time being I put 2 stones to give it some support .
Then I painted the rusted frame and the wood pallet with the remains of the bright yellow I used for the poster frame.
Because this is such a happy colour!
When it dried, I went to the nursery and bought 10 gorgeous cacti. ( yes, the nurseries just opened here. went with mask +gloves of course. had my temperature taken and my name written down. )
The last pictures are of my kitchen cabinets- before and after being re-painted.
Sure- they didn’t look so bad before- or so I thought- until I saw the results of the fresh coat of paint. the same color-but the cabinets look brand new- though they have a few decades of mileage. this is an easy frugal solution to “renovating on a dime”.
I truly believe many many times tidying up a place and repainting it- gives you even a better vibe than renovating- since it takes less time, less money, less noise, less pollution- but the looks are great nonetheless,plus- since you did it all by yourself- the sense of accomplishment is priceless- in my opinion.
Love the cactus table!
