So I was minding my own business a few days ago, when suddenly I saw a “new comment” signal.

I checked it out, since I love reading readers comments, they inspire me and often allow me to look at issues from a different angle.

Then I saw it.

The most ego massaging comment ever.

I was so complimented I began to be suspicious.

Well, that’s me.

After having spent more than 25 years as a lawyer, and a criminal lawyer – I smelled something very fishy.

So I texted my daughter, the smartest person ever, and asked for her opinion.

She told me boldly and plainly ” come on,mom, this is clearly a bot”.

An hour later WordPress acknowledged this was for sure spam mail and removed it to the spam bucket.

I am soooooo glad I was suspicious enough not to approve this immediately…

Now the hugest compliment ever turned to the biggest insult out there…

Why would anybody do that to an innocent blogger like me?

I immediately wondered if more people got this kind of sh#$ stuff, and wondered if they always knew how to recognize those bots and steer clear from them.

Clearly, I am no expert on that, but what lit the red sign for me were 2 things:

1. It said, “my story really needed to be heard more.”

I don’t even have a “story” per se, so the suspicion arose.

2. The compliments were a little too dense so to speak …kind of like the famous scene in “pretty woman” after Julia Roberts complains to Richard Gere that the shop owners on rodeo drive snubbed her, and he accompanied her and gets the sales ladies to smother him with outrageous compliments until he points to Roberts and tells them to change the recipient of the compliments.this is really a fundamental scene that makes you smile at every fake compliment you hear.

But somewhere deep down, I was disappointed that the compliment wasn’t real.

Apparently, I am nowhere near letting go of my ego, although I meditate and try to be aware of my ego issues and the way they control me.

I wish I could be confident in what I do without the need for outside reassurance, but I am not there clearly, and this bot situation made it very clear…

But I am working on it.

Beware of evil bots and inflating egos and have a great day!

The cooliflower.
